I'm Martha!

I'm a mother-of-two with a heart for family discipleship. We're in our fifth year of home education. Here you'll find all the things we're enjoying in our home.

hey there

My daughter is ten-years-old and is beginning to study Scripture independently. She has just finished “When Wrong Seems Right: A Kids Bible Study on Making Good Choices” by Adam Griffin. If you’re looking for a Bible study for your tween, let me share more about this one!

What’s this Bible study about?

This eight-week study will take your child through forty short proverbs. Kids will explore what is wise, what is right, what is wrong and what is true. They’ll also consider who who they are in Christ, their relationships, struggles and ability to persevere.

How is this study structured?

Each day your child will read a verse from The Book of Proverbs and a brief explanation to help them connect the verse to their life experiences. Readers then look up another verse that’s associated with that Proverb, and consider how the two passages relate. Lastly, children answer a few questions and summarise the main takeaway. The study follows this familiar rhythm each day and is comfortably completed in about fifteen minutes.

What I loved about the study?

Children are encouraged not only to answer a few questions each day but to ask their own questions. Then to seek answers to these questions in God’s Word with a trusted adult. This is the first time I’ve seen a study invite children to really ponder what questions they have. I believe asking ourselves questions about the text is fundamental to studying Scripture and I loved how this devotional helped hone that skill. Sometimes my daughter jotted down questions about a word’s meaning and sometimes her questions were more theological. Either way, this enabled me to better guide her through the study.

Who is this study for?

This study would be a great fit for any child who desires to begin studying the Bible on their own, particularly those age 8 – 12. The Book of Proverbs is a great topic to delve into because the verses studied each day are concise and memorable. After a couple of days, my ten-year-old completed this study independently. Though she asked me to read through her answers afterward, which was lovely! She got into a sweet rhythm of doing this study first thing each morning, and really enjoyed it. But you could absolutely do this study alongside your child (boys or girls) or as part of a small group too.

Are there any other Kids Bible Studies in this series?
